Whose Load Are You Carrying?
by Martin Knapp
While we were in Canada in 2007 I believe the Lord gave me a picture of a `typical` Canadian pick-up truck. This truck was packed high with boxes with no room for any more. The Lord spoke to the driver and said, "I want you to pick up a box for me." The driver remonstrated with the Lord and said, "Lord, you can see that my truck is already full and there`s no room". The Lord gently replied, "How many of those boxes have I asked you to carry? If you unload those I have not asked you to carry, you will have plenty of room for the box I want you to pick up." Are you carrying `boxes` that the Lord has not asked you to carry?
When we read that Jesus said, `For my yoke is easy and my burden is light` (Matt 11:30), is this what He was talking about? A yoke is easy when it fits the animal for which it was designed well, is comfortable and does not rub or chafe. Jesus can say that His yoke for us is easy because He has made it to fit us.
Sometimes we can be burdened with `boxes` that we have put on ourselves, or that other people have put on us. Jesus has given us His yoke to carry the load that He wants for us, so that we can be walking in what God is calling us to do.
Prayer: Lord, help me to lay down anything You are not calling me to do so I can be more available to do what You are calling me to do. Please give me wisdom and discernment to do this, knowing that Your yoke is easy and your burden light, Amen.
