But they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31, ESV

At the beginning of this year, I felt God highlighting the word ‘wait’. I think everyone is waiting for something. We are waiting for God to fulfill His promises, waiting for wars to end, and the list goes on. When it takes longer than we expected, we can begin to lose hope.

Our scripture verse for today tells us that, as we wait for the Lord, He will renew our strength and give us the ability to go on. I find it interesting that this word ‘wait’ can also be translated ‘trust’ or ‘hope’. In order to wait, we have to have trust or faith in the Lord that He will do what He said He will do.

What is faith? We see, ‘Now faith (some other versions translate this as trust) is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see’ (Hebrews 11:1, NIV).

I feel the Lord encouraging us all to really know what His promises are and to have faith and trust that He will do it. We need that confidence in what we don’t see yet.  When we have this kind of faith, we will be able to stand firm until we see the fulfilment of His promises. Which brings me to Ephesians 6:13, ‘Therefore put on the full armour of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.’

Waiting requires trust and faith which gives us the strength to stand. Let’s pray that God will increase this in our lives today!
