Therefore, everyone who hears these words of Mine, and acts on them, will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.

There are moments, and this is one of them, when I just want to declare afresh how grateful I am to God for the place of absolute stability that He provides, through Jesus, in the midst of this increasingly unstable world.

I thank God that there truly exists an accessible source of absolute truth, absolute love, absolute justice, absolute faithfulness, absolute purity, and absolute grace. There is so much that is precious in this world that God has created, but the sinfulness of mankind has resulted in the absence of any certain human anchorage for our lives. Lies, hatred, injustice, faithlessness, impurity, and unkindness seem to abound in society, leaving us constantly uncertain of where we can place our trust.

I’m sure it was no different two thousand years ago when Jesus, God the Son, stepped down on to the earth, mixed with the fallen humanity of that time, and boldly stated that He was the complete answer to all that is unstable in this troubled world. The religious leaders usually saw Him as a threat, but most of the common people were enthralled by the presence and teaching of someone they could see demonstrating authority, integrity and consistency. At last, here was a manifestation of the Rock they had heard of in the Scriptures.

He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he (Deuteronomy 32:4).
