Carriers of Blessing

by Margaret Davies

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ.
Ephesians 1:3, NLT

We recently stayed in a Travel Lodge near the airport, on route to Israel, and were chatting with the receptionist on our arrival. She later told my husband that I was such a lovely woman. When he came and told me this, I began to wonder what the lady had seen in me, as we were just were talking about everyday things and sharing some of our testimony with her as the conversation opened that way.

As I thought about this, I came to the conclusion that it wasn’t anything of me she saw, but something of Jesus in me. As we come into relationship with Jesus as our Saviour, we become carriers of blessing, because of all that He’s poured into us. The moment we trust in Jesus as our Saviour, He downloads into us all the fullness of what He achieved in dying on the cross for us to cleanse us of our sin. We don’t have to strive for His blessing, it becomes ours in that divine transaction won for us at the cross. He’s the source of all blessing. We’re merely the carriers.

‘How great is the goodness you have stored up for those who fear you. You lavish it on those who come to you for protection, blessing them before the watching world’ (Psalm 31:19).

What an awesome privilege we have, as we go about our daily lives and business. We carry the Spirit of God within us, which is a free gift to us, through salvation. Sometimes we try to accomplish things through our own deeds and actions, but we can’t do anything of ourselves. It’s already ours. All we have to do is live in it, and I know I don’t always do that very successfully. Jesus has already paid the price, secured it all through His death, and our job is to be carriers of blessing. These verses in Ephesians 3:6-7 sum it up nicely, ‘And this is God’s plan: Both Gentiles and Jews who believe the Good News share equally in the riches inherited by God’s children. Both are part of the same body, and both enjoy the promise of blessings because they belong to Christ Jesus. By God’s grace and mighty power, I have been given the privilege of serving him by spreading this Good News’.

Prayer: Thank You, Father, for all You’ve entrusted to me. Help me to daily be a carrier of Your blessings to everyone You bring across my path in my daily walk. I can only do this as I stay close to You and let You lead me in my thoughts and actions. Amen.
