What Do You Want?
by Tanya Person
The context of today’s scripture is that John the Baptist was with some of his disciples and he saw Jesus and said, “Look, the Lamb of God!” When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus.
That is when Jesus turned and asked them what they wanted. When they responded by asking where He was staying, He offered them an invitation. They went and spent the rest of the day with Him.
It struck me that Jesus still asks this question. “What do you want?” Often, we might not know what we want. I wonder why these two men wanted to know where He was staying. Was it because they wanted to be able to find Him any time they wanted? But whatever their motivation, the result is that they were invited to spend the day with Him.
If you heard Jesus asking you, “What do you want?”, how would you answer?
I was reminded that there were other times in the Bible where Jesus asked blind people what they wanted. It seems obvious what they needed, but He asked them what they wanted, and they answered that they wanted to see. He responded by healing them.
So, if Jesus asked you, “What do you want?”, what would your request be? Would your first thought be healing or provision? He’s willing! Would you be asking to know Him more? He wants that too! Probably less often, we would ask Him where He was and what He is doing, but I feel a stirring in my spirit that this is what He is wanting us to ask.
Jesus said, in Matthew 28:20, “I am with you always.” Let’s remember that Jesus is always with us and wants us to see what He is doing so we can be doing the same things He is doing. Let’s follow Him and spend the day with Jesus!
