What a Challenge!

He does what’s best for those who fear him— hears them call out, and saves them.
Psalm 145:19, MSG

I love having a bath. I find it is a wonderful way to relax after a hard day gardening. Well, let me rephrase that: I used to love having a bath until an experience I had in Scarborough last year. I was on holiday with my friends, staying in a really nice hotel with my own room and, treat of treats, I found, to my great delight when I opened the bathroom door, there was a lovely, large, deep bath, not just a shower.

So that night, I decided I’d have a relaxing soak before bed. Little did I know the challenge which this would present! Getting into the bath was very easy but getting out was anything but. I tried everything I could think of to lever myself up and out of that bath, but all to no avail and, horror of horrors, I found I’d left my mobile phone in the other room, so I couldn’t call my friend to come and rescue me.

I went through a number of scenarios as to what the final outcome would be as I faced the difficult and worrying challenge. Would I face a certain and cold death, or an embarrassing showdown when my friends reported me missing?

As it happened, desperation clicked in, and after much prayer, the Lord (don’t ask me how) got me out of that bath. I’ve stuck to showering ever since.

Have you ever been faced with a different but similar challenge? If so, I highly recommend that (unlike me) your first course of action should be to call upon the Lord rather than go through a number of possible options, which might or might not come to pass. For His promise is that, when you call upon Him, He’ll answer you.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, You know that many of us face challenges throughout our life, some humorous and some really serious. Today we bring those of our friends who are going through real difficulties. Thank You, Heavenly Father, that, whatever we or our friends are facing today, You’re there and Your promise is that You’ll hear us when we cry out to You. We can be confident that You’ll save us. In Jesus’ name, we pray, amen.
