Use Them or Lose Them

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.
Ephesians 5: 15-16, NIV

I have the very great privilege of taking a friend, (who will be 100 years old this year) to a café in a local church on a Monday morning. We keep it very simple and we order either tea or coffee and a bacon sandwich.

We have a lovely time catching up and sharing our news, as well as putting the world to rights. We often spend some time remembering our husbands, who were great friends, and being thankful for what they have put into our lives. We are also grateful for the delightful folks that we meet, both in church and amongst our neighbours.

Daisy is a positive person and I receive so much more from her than I’m sure she does from me. She is so full of gratitude that, until now, she has been able to take long walks around the village. For, as she so rightly points out about her legs, we need to use them or lose them! Unfortunately, she can no longer walk far, but continues to do the best she can.

This made me think about the privilege we have of being able to freely read the Scriptures and being able to share that gospel with other people, even if we do it in a simple way. Who knows? The time may come when it will be difficult to this. So, my reminder to myself is to take every opportunity to study the bible and to tell others the good news about Jesus while I can, in other words, to use the opportunities or lose them.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, please help me to recognise the opportunities which You give to me to share the Gospel with others, as well as to study Your word. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
