The Morning Hour
by Wendy Scott
Now I must confess that I am not a morning person, or rather I was not a morning person until I discovered this secret: that I need to meet with God first thing in the morning and reconnect with him daily. I need to feel secure in His unfailing love. I need to experience His presence and His arms around me so that my spirit and soul is satisfied in God.
I find that if I just rush out of bed, I am not the person that God would have me be. I can be irritable and impatient, and I certainly don`t have a calm composure in dealing with the circumstances and people in my day.
As the scripture says, when we are satisfied in the morning with God`s unfailing love then we can sing for joy and be glad all our days. Our first thoughts upon waking are often negative ones, which the devil puts in our minds to frustrate God`s touch on our lives. However, when I spend time with God in the morning, I find that my whole being realigns itself with Him. The perspective on my day and life changes as I turn to His word in the Bible and rediscover the truth in it.
I find my peace and composure for the day, having been reminded that God is always with me and that there is nothing I cannot cope with in His strength. It’s like climbing into my Daddy’s lap, feeling His arms around me and His Holy Spirit strengthening my human spirit within me.
Yes, I know that it’s hard to wake up early in the morning for some of us, but I challenge you to give it a try. It has made such a difference in my life, and even my husband will thankfully attest to that. I leave my room with a positive attitude that allows God’s spirit to lead and flow through me for the day.
Prayer: Thank You, Father God, that You are there as I wake every morning. Thank You for Your love and the gift of each day that You give me. Help me, Holy Spirit, to turn to You as I wake so I can live each day in Your strength, peace and power. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
