The Full Armour of God
by Ron Scurfield
Are we walking in the covering of the full armour of God, that has been made available to us as protection against the powers of wickedness in this dark world? We should, because without it we may be exposed to the temptations and contamination that would lure us away from the security of the Lord’s protection. Is our life held secure by the belt of truth—the unfailing strength that upholds every fibre of our being? “Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32).
The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the mainstay of our life and upon this we stand, wearing the breastplate of righteousness which is the assurance of our right to walk in the light of Christ. Righteousness is not a means to an end, but a covering granted to us by God - purchased through the precious blood of His beloved Son.
Are we holding high our shield of faith, reinforced by the truth on which we stand? By holding to this truth, without doubt or wavering, nothing in all creation is able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
It is essential that the helmet of salvation is worn at all times. Having been saved from the clutches of death and Hell, our destination is embodied in the bloodstained hands and feet of Jesus. Through the sin of mankind, we were doomed to an eternity of darkness, but by the precious blood of sacrifice, combined with the truth and faith, our true destiny is revealed.
Our weapons of victory are not of this world. This is why the enemy is confused. He cannot counter the spiritual power wielded by the people of God and the Holy Spirit under the direction of Almighty God. ‘For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart’ (Hebrews 4:12).
All this is all supported by the prayers of the saints, triumphant in their proclamation that “The kingdom of God is near.” But we haven’t yet come into that fullness. We, as the children of the promise, need the Lord's help to persevere by holding fast to what we know, which is the truth as revealed by Jesus Christ, proclaiming victory at the forefront of His army. We march on, not in the weakness of human frailty, but in the strength of the might of the resurrected Christ, declaring the glory of God to the world.
This was all pre-ordained by God, to fulfill His plan of the ages, unstoppable in its approach towards an eternity yet to be revealed but surely reflecting the glory and majesty of Almighty God, who was, and is and is to come.
