So Wonderful!
by Cath Taylor
How easy it is to be distracted and lose focus. So many times I sit down to write an email only to lose the time as I’m distracted by reading something else. Then I start to clean our house and catch up on the ironing and find I’m distracted by remembering those emails I forgot to write earlier, and which suddenly now seem so much more appealing than what I’m doing now!
Even in my relationship with the Lord how easily I can be distracted from His beauty, His power, His holiness, His faithfulness, His trustworthiness and just sheer ‘wonderfulness’, by looking at my own strengths and weaknesses. How easily I slip from my heart longing for Him to my heart being distracted by what I need Him to do, or by what I seem to think He isn't doing!
The words of this song by Christy Nockels beautifully turn our focus to the place it’s meant to be:
"Jesus You are so wonderful
So wonderful in all Your ways
The highest praise is Yours alone
Because You are so wonderful
So wonderful You are
Jesus You are so beautiful
So beautiful that You outshine the brightest light
There is no one like You
Because You are so beautiful
So beautiful You are"
Today’s scripture (Psalm 27:4) is an even greater reminder of where our focus needs to be. Do we seek Him and His presence most of all in our lives? If so, then today will we focus and take delight in His perfections instead of being distracted by our own attempts to do good deeds and our gnawing imperfections?
Our needs, our weaknesses and struggles don’t go away as we worship Him - but our focus changes, as we consider all of who He is and all He’s able to do.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I’m so sorry that I get distracted from truly worshipping You and focusing on all of who You are, by looking at my own strengths, weaknesses and needs. Lord, today I chose to simply worship You and to set my focus on You alone, because You are indeed wonderful! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
