Obedience

What do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, “Son, go and work today in the vineyard.” “I will not,” he answered, but later he changed his mind and went. Then the father went to the other son and said he same thing. He answered, “I will, sir,” but he did not go. Which of the two did what his father wanted?
Matthew 21:28-31, NIV

In the Parable of the two sons, Jesus asks two very important questions. You get the feeling both sons had a rebellious streak. The first brother retorted with a definite ‘no’ to his fathers request to work in the vineyard, his conscience however got the better of him and he eventually obeyed. The second brother seemed quite obliging to his father’s request but didn’t comply. Maybe procrastination got the better of him?

We often come across people whose yes is not yes or their no is not no, when Father God asks them to do something. Maybe it’s an area of our lives we need to look at to see if we are as obedient to God as we would like to be. It’s good if we respond without a delay, saying a clear yes or no. Then if our conscience pricks us afterwards and we recognise that our response wasn’t good, we can say sorry and do what God has asked us to do. But to procrastinate or not to act on God’s call could be the beginning of losing out of the biggest blessing God may have in mind for us.

If I can encourage you, be enthusiastic to whatever God is prompting you to do. It’s always for good purpose when God asks you to do something and great blessing when you do it with a good heart.

Prayer: Father, please help me to respond to Your call to do something with a definite ‘Yes’ and even if it’s out of my comfort zone to enthusiastically respond obediently to Your call. I ask this, Father God, in Jesus Name.
