Then Nebuchadnezzar said, blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who has sent His Angel and delivered His servants who believed in, trusted in and relied on Him! And they set aside the king’s command and yielded their bodies rather than serve or worship any other God except their own God.
Daniel 3:28, NIV

I can almost imagine the face of the king as he looked into the burning furnace where the three Jewish boys Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were expected to be perishing. Then before His very eyes, the Lord shows up in their midst and from that moment on history was changed as the whole nation turned from idolatry to worship the Lord God Almighty.

They had refused to compromise their faith in God since they went into the king`s service. Their trust and loyalty to the Lord God had not wavered in any way, even at the threat of certain death. It looks like a good story, but it was an actual event that took place in Babylon. These three young men standing firm in their faith in God and changing a whole nation.

I believe we live in days when we have to be firm in our faith. It`s about trusting in God (Psalm 125:1). When we trust in Him, He makes us strong like mount Zion, not to be shaken or be moved. While we expect our faith to be tested in these days, it`s not just standing firm, but being radical and active in our day to day walk with the Lord. They had set their hearts to do God`s will no matter what.

Jesus said, you cannot be my disciple unless you take your cross and follow Me (Matthew 10:38). Being radical means taking a stand for what is right with God even if it means persecution. They knew that God could save them, but even if God did not save them, they still chose to die than compromise their faith.

As I admire these young men, I realise that I need to be strong in the Lord myself, daily take my cross and move on in God without compromise. Following Jesus is a day to day taking of the cross .Making choices that will glorify Him and not us or others.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I am sorry for the times when I have compromised in my faith in you. Please forgive me and transform me to be strong in You. May the choices I make daily glorify You, no matter what the consequences. Amen.
