It Won’t Just Happen

Some say there is no God. Some say they don’t care. Some say yes, there is a God and hope to be with Him in heaven. Some say there is one true God, and Jesus Christ whom He has sent.

Salvation is of Jesus. Do we need to be saved? If so, from what? Is the world today marching blindly towards a precipice, assuming that, if there is a God, He will save us? But if there is no God, what does it matter?

How do we know? How can we find out? It’s all spelled out very clearly in the Bible why we are here, where we are going and what the consequences are.

Can we believe the Bible? The Bible is the unique book in the world. It is the very word of God. People have died for it. People have lived according to its principles and found them to be true and relevant for their lives. People have discovered Jesus Christ for themselves and realised that it all measures up with Scripture. Testimonies throughout time, and especially in our time, have declared Scripture to be true.

If we want to believe in something that will give us hope; if we need a guide to see us through the many pitfalls in life, leading us on to a sure and certain destiny with the Lord Jesus Christ; if we need something to hold on to to save us from oblivion, we need something that is sure, steadfast and dependable.

The bottom line is we need God, who can only be reached through Jesus. He is our only hope, because He alone can save us from the untold fears that lie beyond the grave. The thief who was being crucified on the cross alongside Jesus said to Him, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom” Jesus replied, “Today you will be with me in Paradise” (Luke 23:42-43).

We have a Saviour who will lead us to God. We have One who wants to bless us with every spiritual blessing in Christ (Ephesians 1:3). He came to rescue us, and take us home.

But we have a choice. It’s a choice we must all make, otherwise the default option comes into play: ‘This day ... I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live’ (Deuteronomy 30:19).

It won’t just happen. We must surrender our life to the One who paid the price for it, and accept Him who gave all, so that we can have everything. He is the One who calls us out of darkness into His glorious light (1 Peter 2:9).

“I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me.. My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand” (John 10:14, 27-28).
