He Remembers No More

When we confess, repent and turn away from the sins we’ve committed, keep all God’s decrees and do what is just and right, God says He will remember our sins no more. So, God forgives us and makes a choice to remember no more. We get a clean slate from Him and He starts anew with us, not considering what happened in the past. He restores us.

Simon Peter was one of the closest disciples to Jesus. He walked on water, Jesus healed his mother-in-law, he was among the three disciples during the transfiguration, and the three whom Jesus took to go and pray for Jairus’ daughter. He knew who Jesus was, and Jesus told him he was a rock that the church would be built on. But Peter fell into sin by denying Jesus three times.

When Jesus looked at him, he realised he’d fallen, as Jesus had prophesied. He remembered Jesus’ words, and he went out and cried bitterly. Jesus had foretold that Satan had demanded to sift him like wheat, but He’d prayed for him that his faith wouldn’t fail, and that, when he’d repented, he would strengthen his brothers.

Our God is faithful to His word and He’s promised to remember our sins no more, once we’ve repented. He fully restored Peter and gave Peter responsibility to feed His flock. We need to walk in the freedom of God’s word. If we’ve repented, we’ve been forgiven, and God isn’t holding our past sins against us. He chooses not to remember them any more. He won’t treat us as if we’re still guilty. God didn’t treat Paul as a Saul, once he became a Paul. Neither did He limit Paul to his past sins. Paul was converted and transformed. He ended up being one of the greatest apostles.

We can never fall too far beyond redemption, beyond God’s love. We need to grasp how wide, long, high and deep Christ’s love is. It doesn’t matter who we are or what sin we’ve committed, or how far we think we’ve fallen, God can still forgive us when we repent.

‘If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness’ (1 John 1:9). So, child of God, walk with no fear, shame or doubt. For Father God has chosen not to remember our sins any more, once we’ve repented of them.

Prayer: Thank You, Lord, that You forgive and remember no more. Thank You for forgiving me. I pray that You continue strengthening me, so I may work out my own salvation with fear and trembling, being confident of this, that You, who began a good work in me, will continue to perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.
