He Reached Down

He reached down from Heaven and took me and drew me out of my great trials. He rescued me from deep waters. He delivered me from my strong enemies, from those who hated me – I who was helpless in their hands.
Psalm 18:16-17 NLT

God gets very angry when he sees His children being ravished by the enemy. Psalm 18 says ‘He heard me from heaven; my cry reached his ears’. Come with me as I imagine what goes on in the heavenly realms when God comes to our rescue.

‘It’s Christmas. Most people in the West are frantically rushing around in preparation; the festivities are about to start, and the children are excited, but, in all the bustle, I’m alone and my heart is crying out to the Lord.

He reaches down in the darkness and turns on my light. He soothes my aching soul. The fire of his love warms my icy heart as He whispers words of life in my ear. He washes me, clothes me, feeds me and gives me a refreshing drink. He draws near and tells me He loves me. My eyes look up and my whole being starts to come alive. The glow within me becomes a flame. The tears fall as I whisper His name – Jesus. Thanksgiving turns into praise and rises into worship.

And then I notice there’s someone else in that place in the darkness, someone who’s weeping; someone who has no hope, someone who’s hungry and has ragged clothes, and is lonely and cold. Then I see another, and another. There are many. I start to reach out and I touch one person. He didn’t think anyone would notice him’.

Let’s take the gifts that we’ve received from our heavenly Father and give them to this one, and that one, remembering that Jesus, the Saviour, was the greatest gift of all, given to us on that first Christmas. God reaches down and touches those who cry out to Him.

‘He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?’ (Romans 8:32).

Prayer: Lord, we worship You, who reached down from heaven to earth, and touched us in our helplessness. We thank You for restoring our lives, In Jesus’ name. Amen.
