Seeds of the Kingdom

He Listens

by Cath Taylor

I love the Lord because He hears and answers my prayers. Because He bends down and listens , I will pray as long as I have breath !
Psalm 116, NLT

Our house is constantly full of noise. There is always one discussion or another going on. Sometimes happy, sometimes very unhappy! As a Mum, you quickly learn the art of multi-tasking! I can now do a myriad of things whilst listening to an 8 year old 's story of his day at school, negotiating exactly whose turn it is on the Play Station, hearing the injustices of a 4 year old having to go to bed earlier than his brother, not to mention fielding requests for antidotes for headaches, leg aches, stomach pains and `starving' hunger.

All this to say, if there is one thing I am not guilty of as a parent - it would be hearing the cries of my kids. Having said that, however, there’s still a big difference between hearing all these things and really taking the time to listen to each of my children. Nothing can replace the times we sit, one on one, and talk. No distractions for either of us. Looking into their little faces, this is my opportunity to really listen and to perhaps see a bigger picture than the initial stomach pains or the headaches. It's their time to know they have my undivided attention, and maybe with a little probing they can tell me all that is really going on in their lives - the good, the bad and the ugly!

I love our Scripture for today, because it reminds me that God has, to a much greater and perfect degree, that kind of care and longing for relationship with me and you. He doesn't just `hear us out' but in the midst of all His busyness and all His children, He really listens. It is so easy for us to make our requests to God similar to how I described my children "please can I have this..." "Please sort this out...", but do you know that God longs to hear more - He wants to listen to your whole heart.

What’s important to you, is important to Him. He wants you to trust Him enough to pour it out. I believe your Father God, the Creator of this whole Universe, is quite simply just waiting, ready at any moment to bend down and listen to you his most precious child!

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you that in the midst of the Greatness of who you are and all that you hold in your hands, you take time to bend down and listen to me. Thank you for loving me that much. Father God teach me how to make the most of my relationship with you, and to trust you with the depths of my heart. In Jesus Name, Amen.
