Jesus welcomed the people, taught them about the Kingdom of God and healed those in need. Luke 9:11

Fresh Bread

by Pam Smith

But He (Jesus) answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God’”.
Matthew 4:4, NKJ

One of my favourite things is a slice of fresh, homemade bread and butter, especially when I am hungry. In this Scripture,Jesus is quoting from Deuteronomy 8:3, where God showed the Israelites that although he could satisfy their hunger with manna from heaven, His words were far richer, more satisfying and essential for Life.

Jesus is the called the Word of God, and He also said, “I am the Bread of Life”.
(Revelation 19.13. & John 6.48).

How satisfying it is when someone shares a message that comes straight from the Heart of God. Our hearts burn within us, just like the two disciples on the road to Emmaus, when they recognised Jesus in the breaking of bread. I always hear God speaking to me when our Pastor preaches. You know, in your spirit, that he has been in the presence of God and you are changed by the power of the Word he gives as you receive ‘fresh bread’ from the Lord .

It can be so easy to give away yesterdays’ bread but when Jesus is your First Love and you have an open, humble and listening heart, you have fresh bread to give away, which feeds and nourishes souls.

Jesus said, “I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.” (John 6.51). Much of the world is crying out for bread because they are starving, but the whole world needs the Living Bread so that they might have eternal life.

May we be the ones, not only to feed the hungry but also to share God’s Word, His precious Son, the Fresh Bread from Heaven, with those who are around us.

Prayer: Lord, help me to keep close enough to you to be able to share the fresh bread that you give us daily with others. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
