Dandelion Puff

by Tanya Person

As for man, his days are like grass — he blooms like a flower of the field; when the wind passes over it, it vanishes, and its place is no longer known.
Psalm 103:15-16, HCSB

Recently we were leading a course and gave the delegates an assignment to go outside during the break and find something in nature that God would use to talk to them. Having done this activity several times before, I was using the break time to prepare things for later in the course, but as I was walking between buildings, I prayed that if God wanted to speak to me, He would show me something as I was walking. Just at that moment He drew my attention to a dandelion puff, and I was reminded of the verse that says our days are short, like the flowers of the field. And then I thought about this dandelion puff, even though its time is very short, it leaves behind a legacy!

The verses following today’s verse say, ‘But from eternity to eternity the Lord’s faithful love is toward those who fear Him, and His righteousness toward the grandchildren of those who keep His covenant, who remember to observe His precepts’ (Psalm 103:17-18). We have a choice of what kind of legacy we leave behind us. We can keep God’s covenant, fear God and leave behind God’s righteousness for our grandchildren. Or we can be like the dandelion and leave a legacy behind that people spend a lot of time and energy trying to get out of their gardens.

Let’s choose today to leave behind a good legacy and to plant good seeds that will reap a harvest of blessing for those who come after us!

Prayer: Lord, thank You for speaking to us even in the small and seemingly insignificant things You have created. Please help me to make choices in my life that will leave a good legacy behind me. Amen.
