Dancing With God

by Tanya Person

Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, This is the way you should go, whether to the right or to the left.
Isaiah 30:21, NLT

Recently I watched two teenagers dancing. The boy had years of classical ballroom dancing lessons, the girl had no lessons but has danced often with girlfriends at home. As I watched, the girl wanted to lead. The boy patiently said, "Let me lead." So she let him lead, but watched his feet. He said, "Look at me and feel how I lead you." As she looked up at him, they began to dance in unity.

I saw this as a beautiful picture of our relationship with God. We want to move with God, but sometimes we are struggling to lead, rather than following Him. Other times, we may submit to His leading, but we are so busy trying to see what He is doing and where He is taking us, that we take our focus off of Him. Then I was reminded of today`s verse. If we look up into His face and relax in His arms, He will take us where we need to go and we will flow together in harmony. As we have our head resting on His chest, we will be able to hear His voice saying, "This is the way you need to go."

Where are you in your dance with God? Are you trying to take the lead, struggling to see where you are going, or are you resting in His arms, staying close to His chest? May I encourage you to find strength, rest, and guidance as you dance through your life with God in the lead!

Prayer: Lord, You have challenged me today in Your gentle way to let You lead and for me to just look at Your face and rest in Your arms. I recommit to do this today. Please gently remind me when I start to try to take the lead or when I struggle to see where we are going. I surrender my body, soul, and spirit to Your will and way. Amen.
