Clear Direction to Move On
by David Silvester
On what do we base our decisions to make changes in life? After a period of fruitful ministry, where we saw God do some amazing things in the village church we were pastoring, my wife and I both felt God highlighted Deuteronomy 1:6-7 to us, in our separate quiet times, on the same day.
We had been in a period that could be described as being on a high place where we could look down upon all God had been achieving. When we discussed this with the elders of the church, they prayed, and also recognised that it was God’s instructions for us to ‘move on’, although they wanted us to stay and continue with what God was doing. The clarity of the wording to ‘advance into the hill country’, was for us a clear call to move north and become involved with Ellel Ministries. We had been living in the relatively flat lands of the East Midlands.
In the two churches we had been involved with, God had taken us step by step into a healing and deliverance ministry. Yet when He called us from our secular occupations we only had a scant knowledge and experience of such things. We soon discovered that when God calls He equips, and gives all that we need for the service He has called us to.
In those church situations the challenge of Jesus was uppermost. He had said, As you go, preach this message: ‘The Kingdom of heaven is near.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons (Matthew 10:7-8). I was brought up in a Christian home yet I had wondered why these things were not being practised? We soon recognised that when they are, God blesses so many people.
How can we get clear directions for the future, and how does God challenge and direct us? How do we respond when His challenges come? Do we wait for someone to give a word of prophecy, or do we let God speak personally through Scripture? Having witnessed a number of ‘false prophecies’, I prefer to let God speak directly to me through His Word.
Take time to listen carefully as God speaks through His Word, and look for Him to do His wonders as you respond.
Prayer: O Lord God, I only want to do the things You want me to do and go the way You direct. Help me to hear Your voice in my heart and through Your Word, and give me the patience to wait until Your call comes to me clearly and plainly. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
