Behind the Scenes

by Tanya Person

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
Romans 8:28, NLT

I’ve had the opportunity lately to go see some plays. Some were professional and some were amateur, but I realized something amazing. There were many set changes and costume changes that were done in such a way that the people watching the scene on stage didn’t realize all the flurry of activity that was happening behind the stage. We were able to be caught up in the story being told and just enjoy it. Meanwhile, in the background (as I know from experience with my kids in productions) there was a flurry of activity to make sure everything was ready for the next part of the story.

This made me think about our lives and how God sets the stage for us to live our lives through each chapter of our story. We can see through different stories in the Bible how God set the stage and put his people in place so that His will would be accomplished.

I remember Daniel was praying, and when the angel showed up in answer to his prayer, Daniel found out there was a battle going on in the spiritual realm. He didn’t see it, but God was working behind the scenes!

It is so amazing that God can orchestrate everything and yet still give us free will choice. As our key verse today says, ‘God works all things together for our good if we love Him and are called according to His purposes’. And Proverbs 16:3 says, ‘Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans’ (NIV).

Today, I encourage all of us to look to the Lord. Let’s ask Him to direct each step of our life and walk in faith, knowing that He is working behind the scenes to create a beautiful performance for His glory.
