Jesus welcomed the people, taught them about the Kingdom of God and healed those in need. Luke 9:11

Seeds of the Kingdom

Be sure to follow the guide

by Margaret Silvester

For this God is our God forever and ever; He will be our guide even to the end.

Morecambe Bay is an area of outstanding natural beauty close to Ellel Grange. It is also a very dangerous area where even in the last decade several people have lost their lives. Though the Bay is characterised by speeding tides, and shifting sands, every year thousands of people make the journey across the bay at low tide.

I recently watched a group of two to three hundred people of all ages step onto the sands to cross from one side of the bay to the other. They were following “The Queen’s Guide,” who would guide them through the danger of watery areas, including a river that has to be crossed, and around the treacherous quick sands that have to be avoided. To venture on this journey without the guide would be almost certain death but when people follow him they are safe. He knows the way and he has planned the route beforehand.

Like the journey across the Bay, life can seem precarious and uncertain. We don’t always know the way that we should go. Circumstances change, people change and we can reach a point where it seems life may never be the same again. However our circumstances or situations may change, God never changes and His purposes never change.

One of the images of God in Scripture is that of Guide. He promises to guide us along the best pathway for our lives. He assures us that He will never leave us nor forsake us. We can be confident that because He is wisdom and truth we need not fear whatever befalls us. We can be at peace in the certain knowledge that the One who showed His infinite love by sending His Son to die on the cross, will indeed work in everything for the good of those who love Him.

“This God is our God forever and ever. He will be our guide even to the end.” It is pointless, of course, to have a guide unless He is followed. The way He takes may not be the way of our choosing, but it will always be the right way, the safe way and the tried way.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You that You showed Your ultimate love in sending the Lord Jesus to bring me into relationship with You. Help me to trust in You, even when things are difficult for me to understand. Today I surrender to Your will. I choose to follow You and trust You to guide me even when I cannot see the road ahead. Amen.
