At the Right Time

At the right time, I, the Lord, will make it happen.
Isaiah 60:22b, NLT

Reading through Isaiah 60, I was thinking about how we have seen part of the fulfillment of these prophecies, but we are still waiting for the final fulfillment of them. Then Isaiah 60 ends with these words, ‘At the right time, I, the Lord, will make it happen’.

What an amazing thought! The Lord knows the right time for everything. And He will make things happen in His time.

My husband and I have many things that we feel God has told us He will do in our lives. Some things we have seen and others we have not seen yet. We are still waiting for Him to fulfill some promises. But as we wait, we can wait with confident expectation, because God fulfills His promises in His time.

Often, people are waiting for God to act, whether it is healing or provision or restoration of a relationship, and it seems like nothing is happening. As people, it is easy to get impatient and wonder why God isn’t doing it yet. Perhaps you are in this place now. You feel that God should be doing something to help your situation by now and you are getting tired of waiting.

I would like to encourage you today. Don’t give up! God knows your need and He will do it at the right time. Allow Him to develop the fruit of the Holy Spirit in your life as you wait. (And I’m talking to myself here, too.) Keep your eyes fixed on Him, not just watching for Him to act, but to know Him, to have relationship with Him. As we grow in knowing Him, we will be better able to trust Him.

Natalie Grant sings a song called ‘More Than Anything’, where she talks about knowing that God can change our situation in a moment, but, even if He doesn’t, it is a prayer to want ‘the Healer more than the healing’ and ‘the Saviour more than the saving’. May this also be our prayer, that we want Jesus more than we want what He can do for us.

Prayer: Lord, forgive me for the times I have grown impatient waiting for You to do something. Forgive me for focussing on what You can do, rather than focussing on a relationship with You. Help me to learn to trust You more, and to develop a deeper relationship with You. Build Your character in me through the waiting time. Amen.
