Amazing Grace
by Pam Smith
Some people are brought up in a godly home or a Christian community. They become Christians when they make the decision to follow Christ themselves and seem to have an easy and respectable walk with the Lord. Some have never known Christian love, and don’t know such a thing exists. But whoever comes to Jesus Christ, the Father draws him (John 6.44). This is the ‘amazing grace’ of God that the Scriptures talk about. His grace is needed for the one who is privileged with a Christian upbringing, (although he may even go astray), as much as the vilest offender who everyone has written off as worthless. His love reaches to the farthest and lowest place in which a man can find himself.
Are you one that feels like giving up because you can’t attain to the standard that you think is required? Have you failed in your walk with God and feel that you don’t match up to other Christians? Are you tired of being ‘lukewarm’ or of thinking you’ll never be good enough? Is the pain too strong, the burden too heavy and the sin so deep that you think you’ll never be really clean?
Then join with many others. All Heaven, and the whole of Christendom and the Scriptures declare God’s ‘Amazing Grace’. It reaches down to the very heart of every situation. God still loves you, still cares and still comes right to the depths of wherever you are, with His forgiveness and grace. When you cry out to Him you’ll find Him right beside you. There’s no salvation except by grace.
What does God require of you – but to do justly, love mercy and walk humbly with Him by showing your willing heart (Micah 6:8). He will do the rest, for amazing grace is His business. I have been there too. This was my prayer:
Prayer: Nothing in my hand I bring,
Simply to the cross I cling.
Naked come to Thee for dress,
Helpless, look to Thee for Grace.
Foul I to the fountain fly
Wash me Saviour, or I die. Augustus M. Toplady.
