Access, Protection and Safety

A door is for access, protection and safety. Jesus speaks of Himself as ‘the door’. This verse conveys each of these aspects to all that have entered God’s Kingdom through Him. For each of us who are ‘believers’, we have found Jesus to be the door through which we have entered into God’s holy presence and have received His wonderful eternal salvation.
There is the open door of welcome where Jesus invites us to ‘Come to me’ (Matthew 11:28). Whenever we are burdened and weary, and aware of our need of His help, the door of access is always open and we’re invited to come in whenever we need His help. The open door also speaks of reception and welcome into fellowship with our Lord and with others who’ve come to God through Him, in the same way that we’ve come. God wants us to help others to find and enter that door and experience His welcome and reception.
Through Jesus ‘the door’, He also provides safety and protection, and when the door’s closed it’s to keep out the undesirable intruder. When the enemy would seek to attack us, and we’re safe behind that closed door, is when we discover that God is our refuge (Deuteronomy 33:27).
We too have a door that we need to open. Jesus says, ‘Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me’ (Revelation 3:20). For us to enter the door Jesus spoke of, we must respond as He knocks and seeks admission to our lives. God never intrudes on our personal space, He only comes in at our invitation, yet when we invite Him in, He opens to us the door of His heavenly kingdom and brings us in to enjoy all the riches of that kingdom. Hallelujah!
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, thank You for knocking at my door and making me aware of Your presence. Thank You for bringing me into the knowledge and blessing of all that You’ve provided for me - access, safety and fellowship, as I respond to You. Help me to make the most of all You’ve given me to enjoy in knowing You as my Lord and Saviour. Amen.
