A New Song!

He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God
Psalm 40:3, NLT

I am one of those strange people who love to jog! One of those bizarre people that my husband, Andy, thinks may be a little lacking in brain cells because I love nothing more than a jog in the pouring rain with music blasting in my headphones!

Living in Florida, I can’t always get out and about for a jog, but this time of year, in the winter, it’s perfect. This year my little outings are proving even more satisfying thanks to a great new gadget on my phone. This gadget is fantastic – I simply program my phone for how far I want to go before I set off, play my music – and off I go. Every half mile or mile, as I pound along the pathways, my music gets interrupted by the voice of a nice lady in my headphones. This nice lady tells me exactly how far I have gone and encourages me to keep going – to not give up!

I am not one for gadgets but I have to say – I love this device. When you’re puffing around the streets and your body’s tired and you’re starting to wonder if it’s really worth it – it’s so encouraging to hear someone cheering you on and encouraging you to keep going!

This verse today provides a much greater encouragement, directly into my spirit. It reminds me that we all have a new song to sing to the Lord of the good things He’s done in our lives. Yes, we can look at how far we still have to go, and, yes, the enemy may discourage us to feel despair at all the lack and weakness in our lives – but God never speaks to us from that perspective. The Spirit of God is our greatest cheerleader – spurring us on to trust Him more, to surrender to Him more, to hope in Him more, and to never give up!

Today I encourage you to not look ahead at how far you still have to go, but to remember how far you’ve come. To consider the new song that God’s already given you. Even if you’re just beginning your journey with the Lord you have a new song of salvation and grace to sing. A song that speaks hope and encouragement to your spirit and reminds you of what an amazing, all faithful, all trustworthy God we serve.

Our own personal song and melody with the Lord will never be complete until we reach eternity. God has so many more beautiful verses and choruses to add to our lives, if we will only keep seeking to discover Him more each day.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, today I sing my song of praise to You for all You’ve done in my life - for Your faithfulness, for Your rescue and healing, for Your trustworthiness in my life. Lord, thank You for all You’ve done. Lord, I trust You as I continue to run the race You’ve set before me. And I thank You in advance, with hope and faith, for the new verses You’ll add to my personal hymn of praise to You, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
