Jesus welcomed the people, taught them about the Kingdom of God and healed those in need. Luke 9:11

Seeds of the Kingdom

A Firm Foundation

by Jilly Lyon-Taylor

He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge.
Isaiah 33:6, NIV

Our first house was a small cottage in the country that had been built without foundations. It was fine for most of the time, but whenever there was a drought the house tended to move as the clay soil beneath it subsided, resulting in wide cracks appearing in the walls.

Similarly our lives can appear fine on the surface until we go through times of change and difficulty, and it is in those times that cracks can occur. It is then that we are most aware of our need for a firm foundation, and it is only Jesus Christ who can provide it. The promise in this verse is ‘for our times’, which includes the difficult days of shaking and financial insecurity that we are facing now, and it includes every tough time that you will go through. How wonderful to have Jesus as our sure foundation during these times!

Our stability is in the assurance that in Jesus we have everything we need - a rich store of salvation, wisdom and knowledge. When the Bible speaks of salvation, it’s not only eternal salvation from sin and death that is referred to; it’s also healing and deliverance in whatever area of our lives we need it – spiritually, emotionally, and physically. Colossians 2:3 reminds us too that ‘in Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.’ Human wisdom cannot provide answers to the world’s problems, and we are told that people are destroyed for lack of knowledge(Hosea 4:6), but in Jesus we have a rich store of both, as well as salvation. Will you come to the store today, and trust Jesus as the only sure foundation for our times?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you that you are my sure foundation for these times and a rich store of salvation, wisdom and knowledge. Help me not to look for worldly solutions but to trust you completely and come to you for everything I need. Amen.
