Right Foundations
by
Recently we began the work on a new extension to our house and the builder began to take the dirt out of the rear area of the house to lay a new foundation. The idea was to see how good the old foundation was, as this affected what type of wall could be built.
It was soon made clear there was no proper foundation below the garage, where the wall would have to connect to. The clay at the rear of the house was not a good quality. This meant the digger would have to take more ground out to make a solid base for a good foundation.
As I was talking to the builders, I was reminded of the scripture above. Many of us have had faulty foundations laid in our lives, where there is a mixture of all kinds of materials, and we have had areas of our lives built on top of this mixture of materials (like my garage).
The builder had to dig out all the mixture of clays and materials laid in the ground in order to get to something solid so that the new extension could be built.
God in His word talks about this same principal for our lives. We need to build our lives upon the only solid foundation there is, Jesus Christ. All other foundations will not work and will cause the building of our life to be insecure and develop cracks and issues later on.
If you read on in 1 Corinthians Chapter 3, it tells us that our lives can be built upon all kinds of materials and that each material will be tested and will pass through a fire to see how solid it is.
None of us can say we have had a perfect solid foundation built upon Jesus Christ. However, we can look to God and His word to see where these foundations have been built on materials that will not last. We can bring that to God, so that He can make them solid.
Perhaps you find yourself struggling in certain ways in your life and it seems you always end up doing something you never intended to do and it causes further harm to you. You may want to look at what foundations you have in your life. Rocky or wrong foundations will not help you to build your life in the right ways, but good solid foundations will help you to feel safe and secure and will allow you to have the stability to weather storms in all the circumstances that come along.
What are your foundations like? My prayer is for all of us to seek God to ask Him to show us those faulty foundations. Then we can bring these to Him and they can be replaced with His solid foundations which will last. Perhaps today you can ask Jesus to make the changes needed to help you to build your life upon Him and His word and truth – to bring solidity into your life.
