Seeds of the Kingdom

Enjoyment

by Tanya Person

Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment.
1 Timothy 6:17, NLT

Recently, I heard that the stock market dropped a very significant amount. I must confess that it didn’t worry me at all. I think some of my retirement investments may be affected by the crash, but I’m not worried about it, because that is not where my hope or trust for the future lies. My trust is in God. Then I read today’s scripture in my daily reading, and I realized that the scripture isn’t just telling us not to worry about what we will eat or drink, but it says that God richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment!

I hadn’t quite thought of it like that before now. I know God will provide all my needs, as it says in Philippians 4:19, but from today’s scripture, I am reminded that His provision is not just barely scraping by, worrying from one day to the next how I’m going to provide for my family. If I’m worrying about it, then I’m not really trusting God. His provision is for our enjoyment. It’s not that we frivolously buy everything the world says we need, because God also tells us to be good stewards, but we can enjoy the good things that He gives us.

When we are worrying about the future, we are robbing our enjoyment of today. Today, I am encouraging all of you, as well as myself. Let’s enjoy all the good things that God has given us and really trust Him to take care of our future!
