Wife of Noble character
by Derek Puffett
Over the years as I have watched my wife raise our children, and now more recently how my daughter and daughter-in-law are raising their children. I thank God for the godly women in my life. Perhaps it’s impossible for any one woman to have all the qualities mentioned in the above chapter of Proverbs, but I do see so many qualities in them, that I really understand why the value of rubies comes nowhere close to the value of a godly wife!
I am not sure if we husbands always appreciate our wives as we should, treating them with respect, love and nurture - nurturing them as Jesus nurtures His Church. Wives do so much for their husbands helping them to be the man of God he desires to be. Verse 26 says, ‘her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.’
A wife of noble character, who can find? Can you say that to your wife? Do you have confidence in her? Do you encourage her? She is worth more than any precious stone? Say these things frequently to her and watch her blossom. And all of us, male or female, married or unmarried can express our thanksgiving to God for mothers who have imparted so much of God into our lives.
Prayer: Father, teach me to nurture my wife. Let my words of love and appreciation for her expel the unworthiness she sometimes feels. Show me how to help her grow in confidence as a wife and mother that she may know my genuine love for her. In Jesus name, Amen.
