Unlimited Imagination
by Lindsey Hanekom
My son and I are huge Lego fans and can easily wile away hours sat on the floor building all sorts of creations from our huge assortment of Lego pieces. As a result of our enthusiasm, the living room is becoming the host to a collection of weird and wonderful Lego creations of various shapes and sizes. Kyle’s creations are hugely imaginative and are erratically shaped with no obvious rhyme or reason to them. We have a spaceship with a Christmas tree that doubles up as a drill, a spaceship that delivers picnics to other spaceships, a flying car that picks up and delivers oil, a jail with a ladder for picking up baddies... the list goes on and on!
Two things amaze me at Kyle’s approach to Lego building. The first is that there’s no limit to what his creations can do. They are generally hugely impractical designs, but are borne from an infinite imagination, that’s not tempered by a life of being taught to be rational about things.
Secondly, as odd as his creations are, Kyle knows every single piece that belongs to each one. If a piece goes missing or something is dropped, he knows exactly where each piece should go to restore it back to its original design.
Our God is the Creator who has an infinitely unlimited imagination. We have to admit there are some very weird and wonderful creations in our world, many of which even the best of scientists don’t even understand the design of.
Even if we narrow our thinking down to the human race we can consider the vast number of people that God has created in the history of the world, and the huge spectrum of differences between each one. It can actually all become quite mind boggling! Our God really is the God of original design and creation.
Whilst we consider this massive diversity and creative ability, the knowledge that God knows each and every fibre of our being, physically and spiritually, is just awesome. No matter how much life knocks us, we can have faith and rest in the knowledge that our Creator knows exactly how to restore us back to His original, unique and perfect design, however unfathomable that may be to us!
Prayer: Creator God, You are awesome! You made me totally and utterly unique, and You know me completely, right down to the tiniest detail. Thank You for making me different and special, unique and precious. I’m Your wonderful creation, borne from Your unlimited imagination, and I love You. Amen.
