Safe Through the Storm

If you say, “The LORD is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.
Psalm 91:9-10, NIV

I woke up to the sound of pouring rain and our home being shaken by the wind. I opened my daily reading and my reading for the day was Psalm 71. Verse 3 says, “Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go; give the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress.” This verse reminded me of the verse I chose as the main verse for today.

Here I am, in a temporary dwelling, easily shaken by the wind, but I am safe and secure. This storm is not strong enough to damage this dwelling. I can enjoy the sound of the wind and rain.

In our lives, all kinds of storms can come our way. Maybe it is the loss of a loved one, sickness in our own life or a close family member or friend, loss of a job, relationship struggles, children making choices that you know will hurt them, being denied a visa to a country where you feel God calling you … these are just a few storms of life we may face.

How do we weather these storms? We must keep our eyes on God Most High. He alone is our refuge when these storms rage, and they are a normal part of life on this earth. We can rest secure, knowing that He is working all things out for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purposes. We may be shaken by the wind of the storm, but we can keep moving forward, knowing that God will get us through.

I have found, in the storms of life that I have gone through, when the storm has past and the rubble is cleared, my relationship with God is stronger than it was before. I want to encourage you today, no matter what storm you are facing, keep your eyes fixed on the Lord and see how He will bring you through.
