Rich With Spiritual Blessings in Christ
by Sue Dare
I`ve just finished reading the first three chapters of Ephesians and my spirit is yelling from deep within me – ‘I’m rich! I’m rich! I’m rich! The revelation of the spiritual blessings available to me in Christ is just beginning to dawn on me and I am wide-eyed with amazement. ‘All this is mine?’ I muse to myself’, and the Holy Spirit within me testifies with my spirit, a resounding yes! Overwhelmed with how wealthy I am in Christ, I sit back in my chair and pause for a few seconds. It’s too much to take in all at once so I`ll have to consume it in bite-sized chunks.
`What exactly are the spiritual blessings we`ve been given by God, through Christ?` you may ask. The list is huge and would take a whole month of devotion slots to unpack, but allow me to summarise just a few. In the first chapter of Ephesians we`re reminded that we`re chosen, made holy, adopted, redeemed, forgiven and sealed with the Holy Spirit, as a guarantee of our heavenly inheritance. In chapter two, we read that we`re saved by grace, through faith, made alive in Christ and seated with Him in heavenly places. In chapter three, we discover that we can be filled with `all the fullness of God` and that He`s able to do exceedingly more than what we could ever ask or imagine. That ‘blows’ my mind and causes me to go `cross-eyed.` It`s too big a thought for my limited mind to fathom and digest, yet it`s true, nevertheless. Again, I sit back in my chair in amazement. I don`t fully understand what I`ve just read and neither do any of us. All we can say is `wow`.
Then I change my focus from what I am now because of Christ, to what I am no longer, and waves of revelation hit me afresh. No longer am I a child of wrath and alienated from God. No longer am I am spiritual orphan. No longer am I rejected by God and an alien and stranger to His covenant. No longer am I hopeless, without God and without purpose. Everything`s changed since I met Christ! My life has gone from night to day and I never have to walk that way again. The same applies for you dear reader. Do you dare believe it today?
Prayer: Father God, all I can say is `wow.` Thank You for all the spiritual blessing You`ve made available to me through Christ Jesus. I don`t fully understand, but I want to. Help me I pray. In Jesus` name. Amen.
