Not the Time to Rest
by
From this verse you get the picture that Joshua was old. He may have been looking back on all he had accomplished with satisfaction, but apparently God did not see it that way. He told Joshua that there was much more land to be conquered.
We can be like Joshua, especially if we’ve been Christians for some years. It can be easy to look back on past victories and feel as if we’ve earned a rest and kick back in a beach chair with a cool drink. But what if God has a different plan? There might be new areas God wants us to work on, strongholds to challenge, fallow fields to plough.
It may not be a time for rest, but for new vigour. Not a time for beach chairs, but for armour.
Later in the narrative, Caleb, who is now eighty-five years old, asks for Joshua`s permission to go to battle against the giants of the land, because the Lord promised him the land. What courage! What faith!
Are there more territories God has for you to take, more strongholds to conquer? Don’t rest on the beach. Put on your armour! There are battles to be won.
