Never-Changing God!
by Cath Taylor
I know some people say that being with children makes you feel young, but my children have developed a way of making me feel incredibly old!! Whether they are asking me to describe what it was like to watch television in black and white, or quizzing me over how I survived without a Wii and the internet – their bewildered, inconceivable expressions suddenly bring back distinct memories of doing a similar thing to my parents, and coming to the very definite conclusion that they must be really old to lived without such normalities!
Getting older is a reality of life and we live in a world where constant change is here to stay. Very little in our lives is permanent. Friendships and relationships come and go over the years. Treasures can break and become lost, new inventions replace old ones, photos and memories fade, moods swing… for a human heart there is little in this world to cling and hold secure to that will last our whole lives.
Even as we grow as Christians we change. As we allow the Lord more intimately into our hearts, He changes us. He moulds us and makes us more into His image. He brings His healing, security and worth more and more into our lives and each day, as we draw close to Him, it changes us significantly on the inside.
Living in such an environment of change and growth, no wonder we sometimes judge the Lord by the same standards. Do we forget, perhaps, that He isn’t like us and this world in which we live. Although our lives and all around us is temporary and evolving – He is steadfast and remains forever. His character, His heart for you and me, and His faithfulness, kindness, mercy and grace never weaken or waiver – no matter what we do or don’t do – He remains the same.
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases
His mercies never come to an end
They are new every morning, new every morning
Great is thy faithfulness, Oh Lord
Great is thy faithfulness!
Words by Robert Davidson
Prayer: Lord, what a relief it is to my heart to know that no matter what changes there may be in my life – You never change. Your character and Your heart remain the same. Your love for me and acceptance of me is steadfast and remains forever, so my trust in You is safe. Father teach me more about You and how I may dwell in the security of relationship with You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
