Jesus welcomed the people, taught them about the Kingdom of God and healed those in need. Luke 9:11
Testimony
Before the weekend I was completely unable to accept a part of the Lordship prayer where we acknowledge the Lord's control over "the manner and timing of my death". I needed or wanted an "out", to be able to control this for myself..... Read More...

My Songs of Safety

By day the Lord directs his love, at night his song is with me – a prayer to the God of my life.
Psalm 42:8, NIV

I have musical children. One of the most special memories I have of my children when they were small is of hearing a rather wobbly little song wafting to downstairs of our big rambling house, being sung by a little happy boy upstairs in bed, after he had been tucked up for the night.

That song, wobbling all over the place, without any key signature or time scheme told me one thing: today has been a happy day for that little boy of mine. He has enjoyed today. It has been a day of safety and good things happening – like being at the beach making sandcastles and canals; or playing in the garden on the climbing frame and with bicycles. It might just have been fun at suppertime making patterns of spaghetti all over his plate instead of eating,

I now have musical grandchildren. I have heard the same wobbly little songs coming from more little boys. Something in me responds with “Thank you, God.”  I know that only safe children sing.

Do you know, there once was a king who was musical? When he was happy, he also sang in his bed in the night: ‘On my bed I remember you; I think of you in the watches of the night.  Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings.’ And that, of course, was king David (Psalm 63:6-7).

Just look at that verse. David was troubled by many things that threatened him as king – like threats of war and civil strife; the daily responsibilities he had as King to govern well, to keep peace among his court and among his subjects. But David knew God’s peace and presence with him. David could sing in the shadow of God’s protective wings and know God’s peace.

I have another verse I should like to share. This verse tells me that God is so happy with His children, those who live Him, that God also sings – He sings over you and me: ‘The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love. He will rejoice over you with singing’ (Zephaniah 3:17).

And that is a verse we need to hang on to and know deep in our spirit: God delights in you and me! He rejoices over you and me. We make him happy! God loves His kids!
