Holiness and Wholeness
by David Cross
A walk towards holiness is difficult without a walk towards wholeness. That's why God offers to bind up the brokenness in our lives, mending the shattered places inside, so that our choices to walk in obedience to Him are not hampered by trying to cope with the pain of the past.
Inner brokenness is not a valid excuse for an impure life, but it is a reason that many of us find it difficult to make choices that will get our lives right with God. To minimise the pain of unresolved past wounding, we have developed almost unconscious coping mechanisms to comfort ourselves, most often in ungodly and perhaps impure ways.
Not making the right life-style choices is no doubt a sin and this needs our repentance, but the inner brokenness is a wound and this needs God’s healing.
Jesus took His disciple Peter on a pathway of dealing with both of these issues in his life, and He can do the same for us. Peter denied knowing Jesus. It was his way of coping with unresolved inner fears and inadequacy. A precious walk on a beach with Jesus resolved both Peter’s inner wounding and his sinful denials.
Let’s take a similar walk with the Lord today.
