Worship
by Katrin Huehne
At the beginning of the year in Ellel Grange we started a season of worshipping the Lord in songs and prayers throughout the day. It’s a great experience just to have that freedom to be able to break into song and worship anywhere, at any time, and it really changes the heart. You should try it! The Lord challenged me during that time and showed me where I wasn’t in line with Him and wasn’t free.
I grew up in East Germany at the time it was a Communist country. I didn’t realise how much impact my growing up in Communism had on my relationship with the Lord and how I worshipped Him.
From an early age we started learning and memorising the Communist songs and poems, and got used to them. After one of the Modular A Courses this year the Lord showed me that the memorising and singing of songs was an act of worshipping false gods, the Communist leaders. By doing that I’d given the enemy a foothold, and it was holding me back from entering into the freedom to worship the Lord with all of my heart.
Another thing the Communist leaders used for worship of them was the flag. This also had had a negative impact on me. Something had been stolen from me. The good news is that our Lord is a restorer, and He wanted to restore me. But for that to happen I first had to ask Him for forgiveness, and then I had to be active and step out and do something. I had to make a proclamation into the heavenly realms.
So, a few weeks ago, I joined the worship team for the first time, stood in front of people and proclaimed through singing with my voice, that I’m worshipping my Lord alone. On another occasion, at one of our prayer meetings, I took a group of people outside. We started to walk around the building singing a worship song and waving banners. And that was another proclamation in the heavenly realms. I’m not under Communism any more, and now I’m free to wave banners for the Lord and proclaim the Lord’s victory with them.
These two occasions of stepping out were for me the beginning of coming into a new freedom and a deeper intimacy in worship of the Lord and proclaiming His victory. That’s what the Lord wants for all of us. He wants us to find deeper freedom in worshipping Him alone!
I don’t know how you’re doing in worshipping our Lord. Is there a hidden foothold in your life holding you back from coming into freedom in worship? Ask the Lord to show you any area where this is a problem, and I encourage you to step out and make a proclamation in the heavenly realms today. It makes a huge difference. Let’s be real worshippers in this world and get rid of all idols and oppressors who want to keep us from coming into that freedom.
Prayer: Thank You, Lord, that You are a restorer, and that You want me to have freedom in worshipping You. Reveal to me any hidden footholds in my life, so I can step out in boldness to proclaim Your victory over them. In your name, Jesus, I pray, Amen.
