His Work is Perfect and All His Ways Are Just

‘Ascribe Greatness to our God the Rock, his work is perfect, and all his ways are just’. A God of faithfulness and without injustice. Good and upright is He’. This was a chorus I sang when I was a new Christian and I remember when I got to Moses’ song in Deuteronomy, I was delighted to discover it was pure scripture.

I have recently been listening to a bible teacher, who spoke about us being created beings and whether we should question the creator about things not being fair. So much might appear unfair in our lives, especially as we contemplate what may look like the ruin of our society. Some people are trying to be upbeat about the situation, some have a ‘gallows’ humour and some are depressed and afraid.

I believe what is really happening is that we are facing our own mortality in a way that this generation has never had to do. There have been terrorist attacks and earthquakes and tsunamis, but as the last of our old soldiers are dying, there aren’t many people who remember the insecurity of a life in a world war. We have now been made to think about death and dying, and many people have their own ideas.

The Bible makes it quite clear that, if we have God in charge of our lives, we are safe. We might go through trials and fears, but we are told, ‘look up for your redemption is near’.

When I was a little girl, I remember older people saying that they have had their life, made peace with their maker and they were ready to go. These days it is all about keeping alive as long as we can. Could that be because people aren’t really certain what is going to happen, and they are afraid?

Life can be quite scary and I’m not exactly looking forward to dying, but, after death, there is so much still to come for us. That is where my hope and my future lie.

In our Healing Retreats we have a prayer we call the ‘the Lordship Prayer’. In it we commit each area of our lives to Father God. As prayer ministers, we stand with those on Healing Retreats and pray it with our guests, so I have prayed it many times. One of my favourite parts of this prayer is ‘Be Lord of the manner and time of my death’.

Is Father God, the Lord of the manner and time of your death? If He isn’t, can you make him that today? Remember that when Stephen was stoned, he had the face of an angel. He knew where he was going.

Prayer: Father God, help me to commit myself into Your hands and make You the Lord of the manner and time of my death, not me, not the government, a disease or even the enemy. Your works are perfect, and all Your ways are just. Thank You, Father, that I can rest in You. Amen.
