God’s Promise

I guess you know, at least in your head, that God loves you and that He has made a place for you in His inner sanctuary which is what it says in today’s scripture.

For many years, even as a Spirit-filled Christian, I knew this in my head and could tell you that God loved you, and I absolutely believed that. Inside my own heart, however, there was a little voice that always argued with it and doubted. The voice always pointed out that I was not good enough to be loved and even if I were today then I would mess up tomorrow and God would not love me anymore. This led to what is known as ‘performance orientation’ which means that I strived all the time to be good enough to be loved. It was hard work, and it doesn’t work! I notice it going on a lot with others in the Church, sadly.

It was a great relief when God gave me understanding of what covenant means and His Covenant that He made for us. The book of Hebrews was written to the Jewish Christians and they had a much better understanding of covenant than we tend to have. They would have understood straight away the unbreakable nature of God’s promise when it says, ‘He bound himself with an oath’ to love us and always be there for us. Actually, it leapt out for me today as if I had never seen it before. Sometimes reading a different version of the bible can do that for me, because the language is more understandable. Sometimes it is, of course, the Holy Spirit highlighting something to me.

Why not meditate on these verses today until they bring you into a place of peace and rest with God. Then you can do things for God because you know He loves you and because you love Him. It won’t be doing things for God because He might not love you if you don’t do them.

Prayer: Thank You, Father, for Your amazing covenant promise that was sealed with the precious, shed blood of our Lord Jesus. I pray today that I will have a deep understanding of the truth that You will never change Your mind about Your love for me. Amen.
