God has revealed many times in my life where past hurts have caused behaviours and patterns, which have been detrimental to me. He has put on my heart to draw close to Him and bring others to Him also. .... Read More...

Seeds of the Kingdom

God is Real

by Ron Scurfield

For us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.
1 Corinthians 8:6, NIV

God is real. His Son, Jesus, is real. Jesus spent much of His time on earth teaching the people about the Kingdom of God, which is also real. God is accessible and longs to communicate with His people. “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know,” says the Lord (Jeremiah 33:3).

There are millions of people in the world who cannot accept that there is a God. He’s seen as a figment of imagination, invented by mankind to meet a need. There are also many millions who do believe in God, but don’t know Him. “This is eternal life, that they know You the only true God and Jesus Christ whom He has sent” (John 17:3). The big question is not “Do we believe in Him, but do we know Him?”

To know someone we need to spend time with them, communicating with them and being close to them. Jesus spent much of His time here on earth praying with the Father. God’s will and direction was Jesus’ primary objective. “I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but to do the will of Him who sent me(John 6:38).

God’s love for His people is unquestionable. He only wants us to respond. From the very beginning God’s plan was to draw His people close to Himself so that He could have a loving relationship with them.

Do we fully play our part in this relationship? - because that’s what it is. Jesus prayed,  “Father, just as you are in me and I am in you, may they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me” (John 17:21). God sent the Holy Spirit to live within us, so that we could relate to Him directly. That’s where our strength and confidence lie. That’s where our life begins. “For whoever finds me finds life” (Proverbs 8:35).

The devil is also real; the one who deceived mankind from the beginning into believing they could be like God. He’s the father of lies, continually looking for a foothold to step into our lives and separate us from the true Father. Often, he doesn’t have far to look. The moment we stray away from the one true God, our relationship weakens and we’re ripe for the picking. Adam and Eve walked closer to God than anyone, and they fell. That’s why our walk with God must be sound and unwavering; ‘The one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord” (James 1:6-7). We cannot have a foot in both camps. “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him” (1 Kings 18:21).

We have a free choice, to walk closely with our God or not. If we hold fast to Him, He will continue with us, our protector and guide, our Saviour and our Lord.

‘The Spirit and the bride say, Come!” Let the one who hears say, Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life’ (Revelation 22:17).
