Glory of God

by Tanya Person

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Psalm 19:1, NIV

Recently I awoke to see a dramatic sky! The sun was shining brightly over the mountains while dark storm clouds were building up elsewhere. The lighting and shadows were amazing! It made me think of today’s verse. We are amazed that the sky can be sunny and stormy at the same time. Sometimes it rains even when the sun is shining. It’s hard for our human minds to comprehend, yet how often in Scripture is God shown to be what seems to us as two incompatible things? He is the Lion and the Lamb. He is the Shepherd and the Judge. He is love, yet He is full of justice and punishes.

Here on earth we will never fully comprehend God and His ways, but we can stop and stand in awe of Him. We should always be learning more about God throughout our lives. As it is written in 1 Corinthians 13:12, “For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face; now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known” (KJV). One day in Heaven we will see God fully and know Him for who He really is.

Our God truly is an awesome God! Let us seek to know Him so we can worship Him for who He is. Let’s ask God to open our eyes to behold His glory, as He displays it daily in different ways around us.

Prayer: ‘Lord, please open my eyes to recognize the ways you show Your glory. Help me to know You more each day. Let me not get stuck trying to comprehend how You can be two seemingly opposite things at once, but help me to worship You for who You are’. Amen.
