Little Lambs

by Jim Person

Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment now that you have had a taste of the Lord’s kindness.
1 Peter 2:2-3, NLT

On a recent visit to Scotland, we enjoyed walking through the countryside. Because it was spring, there were many little lambs in the fields with their moms. Often, we could hear cries coming forth from these little ones asking their mothers for more milk, as they were hungry. In today’s verses, Peter is teaching us to crave pure spiritual milk from the Lord. His further instructions are that we are to cry out for more from our Heavenly Father.

Hearing the bleating of these little lambs from afar has a rather mournful sound and one would think it would rend the hearts of the moms, but as we watched them, they seemed almost deaf to these little cries. But they did hear, and they sought out the lambs to provide them with the nourishment they need to become strong young sheep.

God hears your cry, but are you desperate enough? Are you yearning for this spiritual food? An earnest yearning for more depth in our walk with the Lord is vital for our growth in the kingdom of God.

Perhaps you find yourself wanting, because of lack of nourishment, today.  Do you cry for more from your Father? Do you crave the spiritual nourishment that you need to grow into the fullness of your salvation, but feel lost and alone in the field of life? Your provider is not far off, but He is waiting for you to cry out like a little lamb for your provision.

My dear family, we need to be earnestly seeking the Lord for more spiritual nurturing in this day so that we will be strong from feeding on His spiritual food and be ready to face tomorrow. We are all like little lambs in God’s eyes. He is waiting for you. Will you draw near?
