Wise In Your Own Eyes

Do not be wise in your own eyes. Fear the Lord and depart from evil.
Proverbs 3:7, NKJV

Suddenly I was aware that I had become ‘wise in my own eyes’. Through many of life’s experiences, I have matured enough to have gained a certain amount of knowledge, and I have been round the block a few times, but nothing prepared me for the fact that my wisdom is totally useless compared to God’s ways and choices.

I had worked on my computer for many years creating and editing films and making DVD’s. Then a qualified technician offered to clean up my machine for me. In a short time I discovered all my films, about ten years` work, had disappeared down the black hole that happens to live somewhere in my computer. All the information data on the films had been separated. Although it`s still there it seems it can never be brought back to its original place again and printed on a disc with a simple click.

In my eyes, what was once complete and beautiful, done and dusted and work accomplished, was completely safe and secure. If anyone had told me otherwise, I wouldn`t have believed them. In the same way it takes a lifetime to learn to listen to the wisdom of the Lord. Now I can see that I need the Lord’s wisdom in every little choice I make, every path I take, every relationship I have and every venture I embark on.

His wisdom can bring restoration, beauty and order, the best and most important things. His wisdom can lead us into that which we`re created for. His Wisdom leads us away from `black holes`, `futile situations`, `check mate scenarios` and cushions our falls. I`m totally in the Lord`s hands and trust Him to be Lord over this situation whatever the outcome.

"But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits without partiality and hypocrisy" (James 3:17).

Prayer: Dear Lord, forgive me for trying to be wise in my own eyes. Help me, whatever part of the journey I`m on, to see that my own wisdom is incomparable to Yours, and to learn to be wise in Your eyes. In Jesus` name. Amen.
