Will You Rest a While?

Inside the Tent of Meeting, the Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend. Afterward Moses would return to the camp, but the young man who assisted him, Joshua son of Nun, would remain behind in the Tent of Meeting.
Exodus 33:11 NLT

I love some of the throw away lines in the bible, things we sometimes miss. In Exodus Chapter 33 we read about Moses and his talking with God, asking God not to abandon His people, saying, if God doesn`t lead them, he doesn’t want to move on. We see Moses talking with the Lord face to face as a friend and God passing by Moses and revealing His glory. All this is totally amazing.

The bit that blesses me, though, is the last part of verse 11. Joshua son of Nun would stay behind in the tent of meeting, staying in the presence of God, just resting in that place of contemplation and blessing a little longer. For most of us in our busy lives usually it`s a quick prayer here or there. The challenge is whether we can find that place where we rest and receive, in His presence.

Maybe you think you are not in the right place to come into this place of rest. Maybe you are feeling far away from God. In Hebrews it says, ‘Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need’ (Hebrews 4:16, NIV).

The blessing is that we can run into the Father`s arms in that holy place, not when we have it all together, but in our time of need. There we will find the grace which only comes from knowing Him.

If you have a need today, take it to God with confidence and then rest a while in that place where the presence of God dwells.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank You that Your heart is for me. It is Your desire for me to run into Your arms and stay a while. Help me to come to You, to rest in You and walk in the blessing which comes from that time. Amen.
