Trusting God

Do we trust Him? Of course, we trust Him. He is God and more capable than we are of doing the right thing. If we can’t trust God, who can we trust? He knows what He’s doing and is totally dependable.

Can we trust Him with our lives and all our fears? Are we in safe hands with God? Perhaps we’re not so sure? Things often don’t turn out the way we would like, and sometimes there are painful consequences. The trouble is we don’t know what He will do or how He will do it. We can pray and hope everything will come right in the end. But we may have had many painful experiences in the past. Can we really trust Him in a crisis?

How about tragedies and the pain we’ve experienced? Often, we find it difficult to cope and God seems so far away. Fear takes over and we don’t know where to turn. How can we put our faith in God if we don’t really understand what this means?

The Bible tells us to ‘trust in the Lord with all your heart.’ If we give ourselves totally to trusting God in everything, and it doesn’t turn out the way we had hoped, do we feel let down? Is this not denying the meaning of trust? To trust in God is to have complete confidence and faith in Him. There needs to be total dependance on God -not just in what He can do, but in who He is.

‘Lean not on your own understanding.’ Our faith in the Lord must be greater than our understanding of Him. We’re called to put aside our lack of understanding, and leave it all to Him. We need to let go completely, regardless of the perceived consequences, and allow Him to be God; to have faith and trust in Him, whatever the outcome. Hand it all to Him, and leave it with Him.

‘In all your ways acknowledge Him.’ Take our eyes off the problem and focus on God, who is far, far bigger than the problem. He is greater than all things. Everything is under His feet. As we see this in the light of Almighty God, our fear of consequences pales into insignificance.

‘And He shall direct your paths.’ It may not be the path we chose. It may not even be the path we had hoped for. But as we immerse ourselves in God and His purposes, we find that His way is better than ours. His plan is better than our plan and the outcome is better than we expected. But it’s important to keep our hearts pure, and leave no loophole for enemy interference.

As we commit ourselves to God and His ways, we find a spiritual peace, as walking with Him greatly outweighs the blinkered vision of our own selfish hearts.

God is God; higher than the heavens and deeper than the depths. His desire is that we remain with Him and in Him always. Everything else is as sinking sand.
