Trust Me

You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in You. Trust in the Lord for ever, for the Lord, the Lord is the Rock eternal.
Isaiah 26:3-4, NIV

I was sitting in the departure lounge of a UK airport recently, waiting for my flight back to Prague. I had on my mind the upcoming Ellel Explore weekend, when we were going to be looking at the topic of knowing who we are and the importance of good nurture (especially from parents) for the development of our spirit, soul and body, so that each part of us develops and grows strong and healthy. A young Czech family came and sat nearby. I was struck by the relationship between the father and his daughter, who looked about three years old, and my heart was warmed by what I saw. Here before my eyes was a wonderful example of good nurture, resulting in a happy, trusting and secure child.

The first thing I noticed was the child's response when told to wait. She had been wanting her father's attention when he was securing seats for the family and dealing with the bags. He firmly but kindly said ''Pockej!'' (''Wait!'') Straightaway, she stopped asking, but kept her eyes on him and stood quietly waiting. Clearly, she knew she would have his attention when he was ready. She was right. He picked her up in his arms and walked to the window where they watched all that was going on outside. I could see that he was pointing things out to her and explaining it all. She was very contented.

When he stooped to put her down, they looked into each other's eyes and smiled. Then the game started - she would walk a few steps away, then turn and run at top speed into his open arms. It was beautiful to see! And my spirit felt such a strong sense that this loving relationship with such trust and abandon and sense of security, is what our Heavenly Father wants us to have with Him. He wants us to trust Him completely, even when He asks us to wait. He hears us when we call to Him and will always respond, even if not immediately. He has so much in store for us, things to show us, new truths to impart, all in His perfect time, at different stages of our lives. The Bible tells us that `No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him` (1 Corinthians 2:9).

For some, the image of God as Father is not an easy one. Their experience of their earthly father may have involved broken trust, fear, and lack of love and security. But, when we take that step of faith of putting our hand in God's hand, He commits Himself to caring for us, and that includes healing the pain of what has hurt us, filling the empty places where we didn't receive what we needed and helping us to grow strong in areas where we are still weak. We can trust Him completely, just like the little girl at the airport, for He is loving and faithful and will never let us down.
