Trust in God

by Magnus Oskarsson

As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Isaiah 55:9, NIV

For a while I’ve been doing large jigsaw puzzles, which have between 250 to 1013 pieces. Some puzzles are easier than others. For all of them it takes patience and there are many different ways and strategies to work through them, depending on colours, the shape of the puzzle and the shapes of the pieces.

One was in the shape of a butterfly where the main difficulty was in whether the pieces belonged to the left or the right wing. But most were square ones. Sometimes I divided all the pieces up into colours and looked at the picture on the box to see where each colour should go. Usually I started doing the frame and working inwards, but not always. Sometimes I had no other strategy than to take each individual piece and see where it fitted. Most of the puzzles had pieces missing, sometimes as many as five pieces, which was sad of course, but I could still see most of the picture, so it didn’t bother me too much.

We are God’s masterpieces. Each and everyone of our lives are like jigsaw puzzles that He’s working on. God has the picture of what they will be like when completed and works towards putting all the pieces together. Sometimes He reveals where a piece way off in the distance will be. As I looked at the box of some jigsaws I could see a piece would be in a certain position, even though there were no other pieces to connect it to at the moment. Most of the time, though, God puts in one piece at a time for us, so we can begin to see more and more of the picture He’s planned.

So, for today, rest in Him. Rest in the knowledge that He knows all things, and that His ways are higher than our ways and that His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. He’s working on putting together everything He’s planned. He has all the pieces prepared for your life and He’ll bring it to completion. My jigsaw puzzles were lacking pieces, but God’s a perfect God who perfectly completes everything. We can think that pieces are lacking in our life, but we must trust that He has the whole picture, and in heaven we’ll see the complete image He planned for us.

Prayer: Thank You, Father, that You know everything. Thank You that You’ll bring together what You planned for our lives. Help me today to trust You more with the pieces of my life, and let them be part of Your jigsaw puzzle. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
