To Whom Shall We Go?
by Pam Smith
Man goes to the ends of the earth or even searches the World Wide Web for the knowledge of the truth, to find their ‘raison d‘être’ - to understand why they were born.
They go to a thousand different gods to find food for their souls and enlightenment for their spirits. But Jesus says ‘Come to me all you that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest, for my yoke is easy and burden is light and you will find rest for your souls’ (Matthew 11:28-30).
Some may go through unspeakable tragedies, painful illnesses, unbearable losses and heartaches. When these things happen it’s very hard to face them alone and sometimes not even enough for someone close to console you, it’s then, knowing that Jesus is holding you, bearing you up by his Holy Spirit, that you have the hope and the will to carry on. It’s often in a tragedy that something beautiful can be born in you – like the new buds that burst forth from the fir cones after a forest fire. If it wasn’t for the fire, the seed would never break out.
But we can’t always see where we are in the plan of God. When we think something is the end, it’s often the beginning. So to whom can we go when we need that answer in our lives but to the ‘Light of the World,’ the One who can give us the ‘Light of Life’. If the apostle Peter was speaking the truth, there’s no one else to go to, and Jesus will give us rest for our soul.
Prayer: Jesus – be the centre, be my source, be my light. Jesus – be the centre, be my hope, be my song, be the fire in my heart, be the wind in my sails, be the reason that I live, Jesus. Jesus be my vision, be my path, be my guide, Jesus.
