The Lord My Shepherd!

by

And I will feed them on the mountains of Israel, by the ravines, and in all the inhabited places of the country.
Ezekiel 34:13b, ESV

I remember watching the sheep in Scotland and seeing how the shepherd would take them to lush pastures. I noticed that once they were fed and full, they would lie down. It reminded me that we can trust Jesus, our good Shepherd, because He will take us to a good place and provide all that is needed for sustenance.

Jesus the Lamb of God and Shepherd is our Saviour and the answer for our sins, ‘Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world’ (John 1:29). But He is also the one who feeds us and leads us.

‘And I will bring them out from the peoples and gather them from the countries, and will bring them into their own land. And I will feed them on the mountains of Israel, by the ravines, and in all the inhabited places of the country. I will feed them with good pasture, and on the mountain heights of Israel shall be their grazing land. There they shall lie down in good grazing land, and on rich pasture they shall feed on the mountains of Israel. I myself will be the shepherd of my sheep, and I myself will make them lie down, declares the Lord God’ (Ezekiel 34:13-15, ESV).

All we need to do is trust our good Shepherd as we can feed on His faithfulness and blessings. We can drink from His rivers of delight. This river comes from the very throne of God and contains all the beauty, gifts, power we need. As we plunge into this river, we are cleansed, refreshed and made perfectly whole. It is the river of God’s presence.

‘For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes’ (Revelation 7:17).

Will you respond to His loving invitation today and come into His presence? Experience the closeness of communion and drink from Jesus. How far do you want to go with our good Shepherd? This depends on you. Will it be ankle deep, knee deep, waist deep, or up to your shoulders?

Sometimes we turn our back to this beautiful river and become tired, worn out and dry and miserable.
